Job Description:
A respected construction management firm is seeking a
mission-driven Project Manager to lead a multi-phase project in
Manhattan. This critical project focuses on upgrading essential
infrastructure that directly supports individuals and families in
need — blending construction execution with meaningful community
impact. Ideal candidates will bring strong experience in occupied
renovations, public-sector compliance, and stakeholder
coordination. This role is centered on managing logistics,
timelines, and trades while ensuring minimal disruption to
residents and seamless coordination with city agencies. Key
Responsibilities: Oversee the planning, execution, and closeout of
shelter renovation projects in an active, occupied environment.
Coordinate all phases of construction including MEP upgrades, life
safety systems, roofing, accessibility improvements, and general
rehabilitation. Collaborate with architects, engineers,
subcontractors, and public agencies to ensure adherence to scope,
schedule, and safety. Develop and maintain detailed construction
schedules and phasing plans using software such as Primavera P6 or
MS Project. Navigate agency coordination, inspections, and
permitting with DOB, HPD, DHS, DDC, or other city entities as
applicable. Monitor construction progress, manage change orders,
control costs, and uphold quality assurance throughout the project
lifecycle. Lead project meetings, prepare status reports, and
maintain consistent communication with stakeholders. Ensure strict
adherence to all safety and regulatory requirements, especially
within occupied spaces. Qualifications: Education: Bachelor’s
degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or
related field. Experience: 7 years of construction project
management experience, including at least 3 years overseeing
renovations or rehabilitation projects for public buildings or
shelters. Experience managing projects in occupied facilities,
preferably within New York City, with a focus on scheduling,
sensitivity, and tenant coordination. Knowledge of NYC building
codes, HPD/DHS standards, and public procurement requirements.
Experience with NYC Department of Design and Construction (DDC) or
similar city agencies preferred. Proficiency in construction
software platforms such as Procore, Bluebeam, MS Project, or
Primavera. Strong communication and team leadership skills with the
ability to manage diverse trades and maintain accountability across
all phases of the project.
