Job Description Job Description Summary of Art Teacher-Special
Education The Art Teacher provides direct and appropriate
individualized instruction based on objectives in art according to
the New York Learning Standards and develops social skills while
maintaining classroom discipline and safety. The Art Teacher
collaborates with a multidisciplinary team that includes teaching
assistants, teacher aides, social workers, parents/guardians,
residential staff, administration, and other professionals in the
education and treatment of each child. The Art Teacher reports
student progress by reviewing the IEP on a quarterly basis,
completing a daily computer log, participating in quarterly
Planning Conferences, and by issuing report cards. Schedule: Hours
– 8:30am-3:30pm daily, except for one day per week so designated
for staff conference: 3:00pm-5:00pm. Entry Level Qualifications of
Art Teacher-Special Education Certification in Special Education
with an art background or Certified in Art with Special Education
experience. Teaching Experience Preferred. Must be willing to both
work with and seek to increase their sensitivity and competency in
working with clients with diverse characteristics that may include,
but are not limited to any of the following: race, ethnic origin,
gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, physical and mental
health histories, and differing socio-economic backgrounds. Must be
willing and flexible in service provision to clients in terms of
location of services, which may include, but are not limited to: in
agency facilities, in the client’s home, in the client’s community,
at the client’s school, in another service provider, etc. as
indicated by the nature of service and the client’s needs. Must be
willing and able to participate in the supervision of all teaching
assistants/teacher aides that work in the classroom. Supports
overall strategic plan of the organization. Ability to adhere to
our organization's core values and commitments. Ability to access
and utilize ADP app on smartphone or other device for access to
agency programs. Physical Requirements of Art Teacher- Special
Education Candidates who are successfully hired, must participate
in our Therapeutic Crisis Intervention training which concludes
with a written and verbal test, and you will be evaluated on
conducting a proper physical restraint. Must possess ability to
sit, stand, walk, run, climb stairs, and lift weights of up to 30
lbs. Have the physical capacity to restrain or assist in the
restraint of a child. Be able to hear and see well enough to
provide appropriate supervision of children. Qualifications for
Continued Employment of Art Teacher-Special Education Adherence to
all policies and procedures. Punctual and regular attendance as
scheduled. Safe and successful performance of job tasks.

willingness to go beyond the bounds of normal responsibilities to
ensure safety and effectiveness of school. This job description in
