This individual is responsible for initiating and following
through on the several steps involved in the purchasing of a
variety of products, equipment, and services used by all WMC health
departments. Individual must be able to work in a fast-paced
environment, must be able to work in an organized fashion, and must
have excellent customer service skills.
Consults with department heads regarding goods, equipment, or
services to be purchased which best meet their needs and expedites
procedures in regard to same. Provide customer service to
departments within the Westchester Medical Center Health Network.
Reviews requisitions and purchase orders against specifications and
catalogues. Reviews requisitions and purchase orders with
departments for clarification. Verifies budget allocations and
charges appearing on departmental requisitions. Utilizes a
computerized/automated purchasing system. Designates vendors to
whom price requests will be sent. Summarizes quotes submitted by
suppliers. Contacts vendors regarding shortages, overcharges,
breakage, etc. Expedites delivery on orders. Uses computer
applications or other database systems such as spreadsheets,
calendar, e-mail and database software in performing work
assignments. Leads, guides and trains Junior Buyers in the methods
and procedures used in competitive purchasing. May perform other
incidental tasks, as needed. Qualifications/Requirements:
2 years of relevant professional work experience with a high
school diploma; 1-2 years with an associate's or bachelor's degree.
Background/familiarity with purchasing logistics and processes.
High school diploma, required. Associate's or Bachelor's degree,
preferred. Training in Lawson and McKesson Supply Chain Management
