Job Description:
OBJECTIVE:The Part-Time Recreation Specialist position will help
in the planning and implementation of Therapeutic Arts and
Recreation programming for the youth at the Edenwald Center.Their
goal will be to make sure every youth has a program conducive to
that youth's needs and goals as indicated in their treatment
plan.SCHEDULE:30-32 hours week, 1pm - 9pm and 3pm - 9pm ESSENTIAL
TASKS:In collaboration with the young people and interdisciplinary
team, develop therapeutic art and recreation programming for
assigned residential cottagesDesign activities and create
comprehensive therapeutic activities calendars to meet all youths'
needs and interestsDesign and facilitate Psychosocial
Rehabilitation groups for billing to Medicaid Managed CarePlan
cottage trips and outings in the communityPlan and execute campus
special event, including holiday celebrations and awards
dinnersFacilitate activities including but not limited to providing
supervision and guidance to youthTrack activity attendanceWrite
group notes for activities/groups and enter notes into appropriate
database(s)Oversee the ticketing, transportation, supplies, funds,
and logistics for on and off campus activitiesResponsible for
overseeing and tracking the monthly expenditures of activities and
supplies for assigned cottagesANCILLARY TASKS:Assist with volunteer
eventsCollaborate with other clinical and support servicesMaintain
the organization and cleanliness of the PCS recreation buildings,
vehicle, and equipmentMaintain youth safety in conjunction with
other staffProvide backup to the Recreation Coordinator during
his/her absenceAchieve and maintain any required certifications
(ie: TCI, CPR/First-Aid)Take on special projects as assigned by the
Recreation Coordinator and/or Director of Campus Clinical Support
ServicesJOB SPECIFICATIONS:Must be available evenings, weekends,
and holidaysHigh School Diploma or GED with relevant work
experience required. Some college or BA/BS preferred.Experience
working with at-risk youth, youth in foster care, or youth with
mental health challenges strongly preferredExperience coordinating
recreation activities, youth development activities, and
facilitating groups strongly preferredComputer literacy
requiredSolid organization skills and the ability to
multitaskAbility to work independently in a fast-paced
environmentDemonstrated ability to collaborate with clients and
teams that are culturally and professionally diverseNY, NJ, CT
driver's license requiredMust pass Therapeutic Crisis Intervention
trainingPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:While performing the responsibilities
of the job, the employee is required to frequently perform physical
restraints to maintain youth safetyWhile performing the
responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to perform
recreational activities (i.e. walking, biking, playing basketball
