Job Description: Major responsibilities and activities of the Senior Scientist, Science Platform include: - Partners to impactfully communicate commercial need to those driving scientific investigations and reciprocally communicate key science and application to business to enable the Science Platform innovation pipeline. - Translates identified key consumer nutrition needs to enable science research towards product based commercial solutions. - Builds strong connection between scientific platforms, clinical team and the R&D to ideate on application of science into feasible and impactful innovations. - Translates highly scientific and technical concepts into compelling innovation nutrition product ideas with proposed implementation plans. - Actively participates on early innovation project teams as a Science Platform representative who delivers rapid technology and concept assessments. - Integrates basic, preclinical and clinical science into feasible applied nutritional solutions to meet consumer needs. - Identifies new technologies and ingredients that are aligned with business needs and evaluates their applicability to various product forms, including infant, child and adult nutrition products. - Generates scientific and technical hypotheses as well as develops suggested rigorous experiments to test those hypotheses. - Supports the building of early innovation concepts and their successful transition into the commercial stage gate innovation process. - Drives proactive intellectual property evaluations and brings together science and solution into impactful intellectual property - Develops strong partnerships in a highly cross-functional environment within the organization to build alignment for new business opportunities. - Works to develop and maintain strong collaborative partnerships with key global suppliers, CROS, Universities, technology providers, and scientific researchers. - Effectively communicates scientific knowledge and information to technical and non-technical audiences at multiple levels through a variety of internal and external facing formats. - Participates in joint development projects with external partners using effective principles of alliance management. - Job responsibilities could require working in lab, pilot plant and manufacturing environments depending on scientific concept and/or technical capability being assessed. Position Requirements: --- Ph.D.in Neuroscience, Nutrition, Biochemistry, Nutritional Neuroscience, or a related field is preferred. --- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with 3-5 years pertinent research in neuroscience or neurodevelopment or related fields is strongly preferred. --- Experience working on cross functional teams within a broader organization is required. --- Industry experience in nutritional neuroscience/cognition/gut brain axis is strongly preferred. --- Working knowledge of patent law, technology licensing principles, and methods to assess business value of technology/ingredient opportunities is preferred. --- Clinical, preclinical, or laboratory research experience related to pediatric or adult nutrition and/or cognition is strongly preferred. --- Strong scientific literacy particularly with evaluation and synthesis of published literature and experience with scientific writing and publication is preferred. --- Understanding of research methodologies, product development processes and global regulatory approvals is preferred. --- Ability to evaluate and translate complex technical results to identify new scientific opportunities for new claims and new product areas. --- Demonstrated experience in design and execution of research projects, practical scientific experience working with nutritional products and presentation of research/project results to diverse audiences and forums is required. --- Demonstrated collaborative and effective communication skills with external groups is highly preferred. --- Demonstrated practical understanding of word processing, spreadsheets, statistical evaluations, and data science/management is essential. --- Position requires both domestic and international travel.
